CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOX)- The man known in NBA circles as the league’s first-ever draft pick (1950-Boston Celtics) and the captain of the 1958 title-winning St. Louis Hawks has died.

Charlie Share was 85.

The Ohio native never played a game for Boston, beginning his pro career with the Ft. Wayne Pistons in 1951.

The 6’11” center spent the majority of his career (1953-1960) with the Milwaukee/St. Louis Hawks.

Upon retirement, he founded Sharick Packaging in the St. Louis area.

A memorial service for Charlie Share is planned on June 19th at Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin.
